LITERATURE: John Cheever’s The Swimmer

Literature Students, listen up!

I feel compelled to warn you that at this point, there have been hundreds of hits on my previous postings regarding Cheever’s wonderful short story, The Swimmer. You can quote from these entries, but please, do yourself a favor and know the rules regarding proper attribution and citing of the source (me!). I have got to believe that at least one of these searches came from an English Professor, and I just wonder if it’s your instructor.

Hi Susan. Thanks for visiting my Daily Writing Exercise. Glad you like it.

You have a pretty spiffy site yourself! “The Swimmer” is such a great story. And as a former teacher of composition, I certainly appreciate that you’re urging lit students to cite, cite, cite!

And thanks for returning the visit–maybe next time I’ll have tea ready!

I felt it was rather important to both warn students and red-flag teachers on this one, which beat out even Margaret Atwood’s “Happy Endings.”
Since it’s a new blog and not an official literature site, some might have been tempted to lift a bit too much without realizing that these are not proper essays, just my often open-mouthed awe at the author’s style.
