NEW MEDIA & REALITY: Forking Paths

How different then, are memories from our fantasies, or can they all be considered of the same caliber but different levels in the past.  Once over, they each are just as real because they do not exist in present time at all.

Close your eyes and conjure up a dream world.  Then move along a path you think you’ve walked.  One’s no more valuable or retrievable than the other, and either can be used to pave the future into present into past.

What then, if we sit and dream our lives away, what is the danger?  None that I can see unless we need to prove our lives to others, and that is not a necessary thing.  Five minutes ago I sat here at the keyboard thinking.  Five minutes ago I also climbed a castle’s stairs.  Here are the forking paths we take when we don’t take them all, but very often it is possible that we can simultaneously wander two at once.

I have known people who claim to never have fantasies or daydreams–I weep for them.  But even if one cannot create another world within the mind, there are the interactive video games we play that give us the opportunity to at the very least control a likeable place and time created by someone else.  Are we the physical being with mouse in hand and eyes glued to the screen?  Or are we Kate Walker in Syberia?  Or, are we both at once just walking in parallel worlds.
