TECHNOLOGY: All Systems Are Go

At least on the hardware end of it all.  I’ve got one computer all built, one halfway there, and am currently fdisking and formatting the new hard drive on the first one.  Then, if all goes well, the system files will be transferred from the startup floppy disk to the hard drive, and then I can put in the operating system–in this case, back to WIN 95, then upgrade to WIN 98.  This computer is for a 5-year old (he’s probably turned 6 just waiting for me to fix it) and it was a freebie that has ended up costing me about $300 by now, since what I gave him was just too old to bother fixing after they messed it up.  On the other computer, I’m deliberating whether to put in WIN XP immediately, if I can, since I don’t have a full copy of 98, just the upgrade CD’s.

The sad part is that I believe that what was my main computer has a dead hard drive.  While I’ve backed it up, it wasn’t done all the recently so I may have lost some stuff, mainly stories and things.

Needless to say, nothing much else is getting done while I’m working on this, except that my living room will be cleaned up by default, simply by getting all the computer parts out of there.  Hopefully there will be no problems setting up the WIN 98 on the hard drive and I’ll be able to get something else accomplished this week.
