BLOGGING: Writing Courtesy

Far be it for me to discourage any writers, especially weblogging writers, but this afternoon Susie Evil came flying out of her cave and wiped out a comment from a writer-blogger.

All it was was an invitation to visit their own weblog, starting with the hook "I see you’re into creative writing…"  Unfortunately, they took all of fifty-six seconds to check out my weblog, most of which time was spent placing this comment inappropriately on a Literature Analysis posting of Alias Grace.  People who write, should read.  Common courtesy would demand that you at least read some of the blog you want to add to your list of readers, murmur some words of appreciation for the writing, and if you are a creative writer, come up with a new comment for each weblog you’re pasteing your free advertising into.  I would think that any creative writer would at the very least find something to say about another writer’s weblog other than "I see you’re into creative writing…"—come check me out!

Well I did check it out, and it’s legit, and it’s fine, but there’s a mean streak in me that refuses to acknowledge this comment as from a source of creative writing when it’s been plastered on quite a few lit blogs already.

So, sorry my friend; get creative.
