WRITING: Rewriting Woes

Just got a note from a fellow writer on some problems he’s having with changing angles, viewpoints, focus.

I try to help, but today’s not such a good day to be handing out suggestions; woke up knowing that a lot of rewriting I did last night may have done more damage to this latest story and really wish I’d have started a new draft for it and saved the old as it was.  I do have several saved drafts, but not up to the point on the most recent prior to mindless paths I’ve added in.

What do you do when you think you’ve gone too far and gotten lost?
