TECHNOLOGY: Hookups & Cables

Well, the scanner hooked up like a charm.  No problems.  Got it working and scanned a photo and sent it to (where else?) Photoshop.

The Fax machine is another story.  I can’t get beyond setting the station I.D. for some reason–it wants a number and I’m feeding it the phone number of the line it’s on (the shop phone) but it angrily beeps three times and won’t let me set up anything else.  I’ve finally e-mailed Brother and asked what the heck I’m supposed to do.  Of course, it’s asking all about the computer the fax is hooked up to, and hey, it’s not hooked up to the pc; isn’t supposed to be.

In the meantime, I’m driving potential customers nuts with the screeching beep the fax answers the machine with all morning until I figured out how to set the answering machine to answer it first.

And I thought this one was going to be a breeze.  But then again, while I’ve built many computers, fixed toasters, irons, drills, and just about anything that can be opened up and worked on, I’m one of those who can’t program the VCR and have to put up with the flashing 12:00 every time the electricity goes out, waiting for somebody who knows how to deal with it to fix it.
