LITERATURE: So Many Books, So Little Time…

Every day I try to hold off on any personal (Reality?:) postings until after 4:52 p.m. when the sweeping hands of MetaxuCafe harvest member headlines.  I also try to post something literary just prior to that time in the hopes that I present my better side.

There’s a great post that Bud Parr put up at Metaxu that unfortunately may end up costing me some money over at Amazon.com:  Top Ten Fiction Works gives Bud’s favorites (with a different criteria than most top ten lists) and member’s comments.  Here’s what I put down:

1.  Blood Meridian
2.  100 Years of Solitude
3.  The Borzoi Poe
4.  Franny and Zoey
5.  Watership Down
6.  As I Lay Dying
7.  Cannery Row
8.  Suttree
9.  The Consolation of Philosophy
10. Wuthering Heights
11. Candide…oh, that’s eleven.

Obviously, Consolation is not fiction, but I snuck it in there because of its everlasting effect on me.  There were a few more I would have squeezed in:

Watchmen
The Heart is a Lonely Hunter
The Portable Parker
Rebecca

And really, so many more.  All for different reasons except they hold this in common: they will never really leave me alone.
