REALITY: Paths

This is the “test” post I was trying to put up. The image is messed up since it went through many paths to get from program to program, computer to computer, to end up here. Interesting…a path for a path.

WRITING: Motive

This well may be why writers write: to say the things inside your mind out loud and have it hailed as vivid imagination.

Oh, how clever!  I’d have never thought of that!

Nor would you want to live it on a daily basis. How much of what we write is real or real to us?  How much should we let on…

REALITY: Shaking Free

The bush beside my door is squeaking–maybe baby cardinals I think.  I picture them all snuggled in the warmth, awaiting the week when they will fly away.  Wrapped in my nest of robe I want to shake it free as well, but have to wait to fly like they.  Naked, soar to the sky and leave the nest behind.

REALITY: Telepathy

Sat on the back step this morning watching a Red-tailed Hawk watching me. I tried to think my way inside his head, wondering where I’d fly if I could transfer myself, my soul, into his feathers.

He sat there on the bending birch thinking his way into my head.  Fill the feeder, he was saying; bait the trap.

TECHNOLOGY: Laptop Cooler

A bit ago I mentioned that I wished someone would invent a gel-cushion or something that could serve as a cooler for both laptop and lap.  I also posted a question to John Walkenbach on the J-Walk blog, and got some answers.  Thanks once again John!

EDUCATION: Down to the Wire

History paper turned in before the start of class, made myself a promise that even if I felt insecure once the book was discussed in class I wouldn’t rewrite.  Stuck to my guns; I’d mentioned most of the sections he’d brought up.  Not my best paper to be sure, but not one that will be rewritten.  One more paper to go on this before next week.

One class left on Monday in Creative Writing, and that’s it.  Aside from the summer course science elective to make up, but that’s online.  Monday then, may be my last day on campus.  After four years, amazing.

New territory to explore, maybe further than six miles away.

REALITY: New Morning

Rainwashed sky, clean and clear as background for the budding spring.  How long before we paint it red again?

REALITY: Racing Amazon

Because I know, once "Still Life" is delivered, my history paper must be history or it will  not be finished.  Nothing has been such a tedious job as this particular essay on "Goodbye To All That."  The book was tedious, the questions raised not easily answered, and I’ve seriously considered taking a zero on this one.  I’m nearly done, but don’t feel happy with it.  We do have until next week to turn it in, but with a 10-page essay exam to do in that time as well, I want this one out of my head, out of my home.  We will discuss the book in class tonight, but I will most likely hand it in at the beginning of class to eliminate any temptation to work more on it.

In the meantime, I did get in my own copy of "Silent Hill II" just because I did get the urge to finish it, and am awaiting also another copy of "Blood Meridian" because I foolishly lent it out to someone who will most likely never return it.  and the last item expected is a how-to manual on Adobe Illustrator.  Looks like some fun times ahead.

That is, if I can ever rid myself of this dreadful book.

REALITY: Movement

Sudden bursts of energy, as if semester’s end were a beginning and it’s no more than a step along the way.  So why?

Ah yes, the deadline of it all.

REALITY: Nature

Watching PBS, Strange Days on Planet Earth.  Learning about what’s happening by studying the frogs.  A male leopard frog found with eggs in his testes.  More anomalies.  Although I am not crazy about things that leap, it brings strong memories of how very much I wanted to be an archaeologist when I was young.  Or something that included field research work like that.

And a bad, more recent memory.  The slaughter of millions of tree frog tadpoles in my swimming pool one summer.

NEW MEDIA: Redirecting Aggressive Tendencies

Thanks to Anne at Fishbucket for reminding me about Sodaplay.

Mellow mood makes for gentle play and pondering the technical intricacies.

The meanies make for flipping spiders on their backs and twisting children in their swings.

EDUCATION: Essay Requirements

Still plodding through a history paper word by painful word.  Fact, no fiction here allowed.  Can’t colorize World War I–it would be a sacrilege and automatic F, offensive to a learned professor’s sensibilities.

I cannot be, I know, a journalist.  If I continue with story at all, the written kind, it must have only existed in my mind.  Could the reason be, perhaps, a matter of power and control?

REALITY: Spring

May day grey day, buds swelling green and lilacs lavendar.  No competition from a blue, blue sky as streaks of spring are painted on the earth.

Good.  Some poetics, some sense of imagery is coming back to me.

WRITING: Self Publishing

David St. Lawrence of Ripples has kindly left an informative and encouraging comment on my post below, and until my history paper’s done, I’ll be unable to respond adequately or even begin to read his series on self-publishing that I’ve been waiting to get to all semester.

But I aim to wrap this essay up tonight and head over tomorrow to give it at least a sneak peek before I can digest it more thoroughly.

And I couldn’t let it get any later before I thanked him for his suportive words.  It has always amazed me how weblogging buddies, strangers really, have turned out to be the ones who will take that extra minute of their time to read, understand, empathize and encourage.  We’re not always needy of praise in lack of critique, but sometimes all it takes is an encouraging word to make the difference between a would-have and a success story.  Thanks, David, and the rest of you all.  It’s much appreciated.
