NEW MEDIA: Changing Life–and Death

And not really the newest new media, but television.  And not the ads and what we buy, but career choices based upon the latest swath of programming.

CSI.  I loved the first one, and am slowly working up an addiction to the other two.  But just like the cowboy and later the detective shows that started out television drama, we all wanna be cowboys (or in my case, an Indian) and detectives when immersed for several hours a night in the medium.

But not only has CSI spawned a flood of students wanting to be medical examiners and lab workers, it has affected the funeral industry as well.  No one wants to be autopsied.  I personally have made my decision long ago to be crispy-fried and buried in a little box in the woods, but I suggest that everyone start thinking now and plan to look as natural as possible when the moment of death arrives.

Any hint of a suspicious nature, and they will lay you on that cold steel slab and leave you a bloody mess.  And while you may tell yourself it’s just a body and not the essence of who you are, then why do you bother slathering on the lotion every morning?

At first I was giggling with appreciation, but then the truth sort of sneaked into my consciousness. I’m not sure if I’m capable of “looking as natural as possible when the moment of death arrives”, although I’ll certainly give it my best shot, now that I’ve been forewarned.

I absolutely and completely adored that line.

People pay money to read stuff like that.

Well, it’s just one more thing to stress about.
