LITERATURE: Choices in Philosophy

Needing philosophy right now, rather than mathematics, history or the sciences although they are related.  From my list I find On The Sublime written by Longinus, Lucretius’ On The Nature of Things, and of course, Augustine.  I surf and scan to help make the decision.  Augustine is so religion-based I feel it may be biased for right now.  Lucretius’ is poetic prose, and long–maybe too much to go through to get at the core of it, now, when time is of the essence.  Longinus, maybe, maybe.

Or maybe I need skip ahead several centuries to find ideas expanded upon these, their base; their base which I will still see within the framework of the word, without the decorating language of the times.

I just know this:  I need the guidance of philosophy right now.  It seems at odds to seek out purest justice and yet care not nor hold in any high esteem the law as written nor any feelings hurt in supposed injury.  The needs of soul need be held above and separate from those of the mortal world.  Peace with others.  Peace with self.
